Overview

What Is a Neck Lift?

The skin of the neck often starts to show signs of aging before the face. Heredity and weight fluctuations can also have a substantial impact on the appearance of the neck. Horizontal bands, loose skin, and other unsightly effects can be reversed through a neck lift, which restores a firmer and more youthful appearance to this body area. Neck lifts are performed for the residents of Fort Lauderdale and Broward County by double board-certified plastic surgeon Nathan Eberle, M.D., D.D.S., F.A.C.S. of the Weston Center for Plastic Surgery.

A neck lift is a surgical procedure to tighten the area around the neck and jawline. It is a highly personalized procedure. Sometimes people will notice signs of aging around their neck before their face. This may include excess fat creating jowls, fatty deposits under the chin, muscle banding, and loose neck skin. A neck lift will help restore youthful contours to your neck without having to undergo a full facelift.

Benefits

Benefits of a Neck Lift

Many people don’t realize that the most visible signs of aging appear in the neck and throat area. For many patients with healthy skin tone in the face, the presence of “turkey neck” or sagging skin beneath the chin detracts from an otherwise youthful appearance. In many patients, a neck lift provides the most dramatic form of rejuvenation possible, correcting the following flaws:

  • Sagging skin around the lower face, jowls, and neck.
  • Fatty pockets beneath the chin.
  • Turkey neck" vertical bands in the front of the neck.

If you dislike the way your neck looks, a neck lift may be right for you. Common complaints include sagging, small pockets of excess fat, loose skin, and horizontal lines across the neck. This procedure is available for adults of any age who are in good general health. Neck lifts can reduce signs of aging, as well as alleviate some cosmetic issues caused by heredity or weight changes.

The Procedure

How Involved Is the Neck Lift Procedure?

Neck lifts may require either local or general anesthesia, depending on the extent of surgical correction. This procedure usually takes between one to three hours. It is usually performed as open surgery, requiring an incision under the chin.

Each neck surgery is planned according to the patient’s aesthetic goals. Dr. Eberle can tighten neck muscles to remove unsightly band lines across the neck. Liposuction can be used to remove small deposits of fat. Excess skin is trimmed away and the muscles under the chin may also be tightened. Incisions are closed with sutures.

Recovery

How Long Is the Recovery After a Neck Lift?

Following a neck lift, the neck is wrapped in a compression bandage. Patients may experience soreness, tenderness, swelling, or bruising. Sensations of skin numbness or tightness are also common. For the first 10 days, keep your neck and head elevated and dress in a button-down shirt. Most patients are able to return to work within one to two weeks.

Pricing

How Much Does a Neck Lift Cost?

Neck lift costs vary significantly depending on the specific cosmetic concerns being targeted, the extent of surgical work being done, and the surgical techniques used. In addition, it is often combined with other facial procedures, such as a facelift, further affecting the total price. Financing is available.
